Franz Sinabell

Priv. Doz. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Franz Sinabell is senior researcher at the Austrian Institute for Economic Research (WIFO), where he works in the research area environment, agriculture and energy. He works in the fields of agricultural and food policy, environmental and resource economics and risk management. From 2008 to 2012 he was Deputy Director of WIFO. He lectures at the University of Vienna and the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna. He is an expert advising the Commission on the preparation of the annual report on the economic situation of agriculture and he is a board member of the Austrian Society of Agricultural Economics.

His lecture on Global Grain Markets in Turmoil deals with the recent and long-term development of global markets for cereals. It will present and examine those phases in which the volatility of prices increased strongly due to political events or agricultural policy decisions. Options and measures to stabilise prices will be presented and discussed in the light of current events.
